Egypt vocabulary words
12. chaos n. Ancient Greek word: Lacking order; unpredictability (e.g.: There was chaos in the lunchroom on Friday.  OR: Confronting chaos was a constant issue for the Ancient Egyptians.  Therefore, they gave their king ultimate power and worshiped him as a god.
13. fertile adj. rich, healthy, able to produce seeds and plant growth. (e.g.: The seasonal flooding of the Nile River left mineral-rich silt on the floodplains.  This created fertile soil where plants could grow.)  
14. famine n. an intense shortage of food; starvation
15. elevation n. height above the surface of the earth or above sea level. (e.g.: the Nile River looks like it is flowing “up” on the map because it is flowing up in latitude, but down in elevation.)
Challenge:
papyrus n. 1. A tall water plant of Egypt 2. A writing material made from papyrus plant woven together.  This was the first form of paper created by Ancient Egyptians.  The priests and scribes wrote their hieroglyphs on them and used them as scrolls.   Papyrus was also the symbol for Lower Egypt.
lotus n. a tropical water lily with sacred value in many eastern religions/philosophies.  In Ancient Egypt, the lotus flower was the symbol of Upper Egypt.

(Tests will be multiple-choice for root words.  For all other words, it will be either matching/fill in the blank, or writing a basic definition and using the word in a sentence.)
