Punctuation rule: If you use these words in the beginning of a sentence as a transitional word, include a comma after the word or phrase.

Spelling Routine:
(In your journals with the date)
Monday:
___Write each spelling word you missed five times correctly.
___Find two words from your independent reading book. Look them up in the dictionary. Copy down the definition. Include the part(s) of speech.
___Look up one word (either from above or a different word) in the thesaurus. Copy down one synonym and one antonym if there are any. (If the word is not in the paper thesaurus, please find it online at merriam-webster.com or thesaurus.com, etc.)
Tuesday:
___Write 8 sentences using at least 10 spelling words – include the ones you missed in the pre-test.
Wednesday:
___Write a story with at least 8 of the spelling words. This week please focus on a creative and exciting beginning.
Thursday:
___Study for test on Friday morning. Good Luck!
SPELLING/VOCABULARY DAILY HOMEWORK RUBRIC:
___I used each spelling word correctly in my sentence/paragraph, and I spelled each spelling word correctly.
___ My writing is thoughtful and meaningful. My sentences are interesting, and my paragraph/story uses the words in a way that makes sense as a complete paragraph
___I punctuated my sentences correctly with correct capitalization, periods, and commas.
___My handwriting is neat and clear. My work is written with a sharp pencil on a clean sheet of lined paper with my full name in the right hand corner.
